What causes spider veins and varicose veins?

Spider veins are caused by weakened or damaged valves in the blood vessels, which leads to poor blood circulation. As blood pools in the veins, they become enlarged and visible under the skin, often appearing as red, blue, or purple lines. The appearance of varicose veins and spider veins can be influenced by genetics, ageing, hormonal changes (such as pregnancy or menopause), prolonged standing or sitting, and sun exposure.

Benefits of sclerotherapy.

  • Improve blood flow by treating veins that are not functioning properly.

  • Reduces the appearance of visible spider veins.

  • May improve the appearance of skin texture and tone in treated areas.

How it works.

Sclerotherapy works by targeting the unwanted veins by causing them to collapse and close off. Once the veins are closed, they can no longer carry blood, and the body gradually reabsorbs them over time. This process results in clearer, smoother skin, as the treated veins fade away naturally. The treatment is quick, minimally invasive, and typically requires little downtime. The duration of the procedure depends on how many veins are being treated. Afterward, patients can usually resume daily activities immediately, with the possibility of using compression stockings to assist the healing process and reduce swelling in the treated areas.
