Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

Medical consultations can be booked with or without a referral. However, to claim a Medicare rebate for initial general dermatology consultations, subsequent reviews, and specific treatments, a valid GP referral is required. This referral ensures transparent communication with your general practitioner concerning your medical history, medications, and allergies, enabling us to tailor your appointment precisely to your skin needs.

It's important to note that cosmetic consultations do not required a referral.

Do you accept walk in patients?

No, we do not accept walk in patients. To ensure that we can provide the highest quality of service, we operate on an appointment-only basis.

Can I receive treatment on the same day as my consult?

In most cases, appointments for treatments are to be scheduled on a separate day following the initial consultation. This approach provides patients with sufficient time for thoughtful consideration regarding whether to proceed with the procedure. For urgent or emergency treatments, we do offer same-day treatments based on availability and necessity.

Please note that a face-to-face consultation will be required prior to treatment if any of the following apply:

  • You are a new patient to DIV

  • You have not had an appointment at DIV in over 18 months

  • You are presenting a new or additional concern

How long is the wait time to see someone?

The waiting time for appointments can vary depending on the season and practitioner availability. As a general guideline:

  • Dermatologist appointments may have a waiting time of up to 4 weeks.

  • Nurse practitioner appointments may have a waiting time of 2 - 4 weeks.

We reserve a specific number of slots for urgent or emergency cases. If you require an urgent or emergency appointment, we kindly ask your general practitioner to contact us directly at (03) 9826 4966 to facilitate this process.

Do you take private health insurance?

No. For Australian residents, legislation unfortunately does not allow private health insurance providers to cover for medical services administered outside of a hospital setting.

Are you open on weekends?

The Dermatology Institute ONLY operates on weekdays:

  • MONDAY – FRIDAY: 8.00 AM – 5.00 PM

What is the cancellation & non attendance policy?

We kindly request a minimum of 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Failure to provide this notice will result in a $50 fee, which reflects our commitment to honouring the valuable time set aside for you. This policy applies equally to missed appointments (no-shows). We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
