How to manage excessive sweating

If you experience chronic excessive sweating of the armpits, hands, feet or face you are not alone. At least 3% of the global population suffers from this isolating and debilitating medical condition called hyperhidrosis.

Assoc Prof Greg Goodman says that people underestimate the huge impact hyperhidrosis can have on a person's life.

Hyperhidrosis can impact your work and social life as well as your relationships, and can cause isolation and even depression. It can affect the entire body and can be triggered at any age.”

The good news is it’s treatable, and for eligible patients the Australian Government provides a Medicare rebate when the condition is treated using sweat reducing injections administered by a properly trained and registered Dermatologist.

While the exact cause of hyperhidrosis is unknown, it is thought to be a physiological condition that stops the body from properly regulating its temperature. Certain factors can trigger an episode including hot weather, spicy foods, exercise, stress or anxiety, and the trigger will depend on the individual.
