WHAT IS INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL)?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a treatment that works in a similar way to lasers but uses a range of wavelengths to treat multiple skin issues at once.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a technique that applies broad-spectrum light to the surface of the skin to targets discoloured, damaged or prematurely aged skin. Once removed this allows your natural skin tone to shine through. Each treatment takes from 30 to 45 minutes to complete and has very little recovery time.
WHAT DOES IPL TREAT?
HOW DOES IPL REJUVENATION WORK?
IPL uses specific wavelengths in the visible light spectrum, which are absorbed into the skin's melanin (the dark pigment in skin) and haemoglobin (the red colour in your vessels). This converts to heat, which damages the target cells whilst leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. IPL is therefore able to treat a variety of skin concerns at once, such as sun damage, pigmented abnormalities and vascular formations. Over several treatments, IPL also stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen which will ultimately result in improved skin strength and elasticity.
HOW MANY IPL TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
For optimal results 2-4 treatments are required
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY TREATMENT?
Patients may experience a darkening of brown spots and a feeling of mild sunburn following treatment. These after-effects can last for the remainder of the day. Redness and swelling are common and may last for one to two days post treatment. Some scabbing and even blistering may be seen, especially if brown spots are treated.
ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
Yes. However, for the best results maintenance treatments are recommended to preserve the outcome.
