How does the procedure work?
The Venus Legacy uses radiofrequency skin tightening technology to create a precisely controlled zone of deep heating in the skin as well as in the underlying tissues. The main structural component of the skins’ deeper layer, the dermis, is collagen, which provides the skin its strength. As we age, the body produces less collagen resulting in wrinkles and laxity. The heat from the Venus Legacy creates a thermal reaction that causes new collagen to form, along with the increased production of fibroblasts and new elastin fibres which results in tighter, smoother looking skin. In addition, the body initiates a second response to heating within the dermis and underlying tissue. This is part of the body's natural wound-healing response meaning this treatment provides both immediate skin tightening as well as long-term tightening effects.
What will the patient experience during the procedure?
Unlike many other non-surgical fat reduction and skin tightening techniques the Venus Legacy is generally a very comfortable procedure that requires no anaesthetic. Many patients compare the experience to a relaxing hot stone massage and find it quite comfortable and even relaxing. Your practitioner will apply a gel to the skin that helps the applicator glide more easily and protects your skin from the heat. They will then begin using the applicator to apply smooth, consistent movements on the skin’s surface. A pulsating suction sensation can be felt with a gradual increase in heat that is only taken to a level that is comfortable for the client.
What can the patient expect after the procedure?
This treatment has very little associated downtime and is considered a ‘lunch time’ treatment meaning you can return to normal activities immediately after. Some people experience a degree of warmness on their skin afterwards and possibly some redness, much like a mild sunburn but this usually disappears within one to two hours. Immediately following the procedure, your skin should feel tighter, smoother and more youthful. Because of the second reaction in the skin, results can continue to improve for up to 6 months.
